Lions secure good win in tough battle

Match report by Ciaran Larkin.

After last week's good result against Russellers, we faced stronger opposition this time against BPR, who beat us in the home fixture earlier in the season, so we knew we needed to play well today in order to get a good result against them.
The game kicked off and we started slowly; BPR were having a lot of the ball and we weren’t creating that many shots despite finding ourselves in good positions across the pitch. Ciaran had a free kick about 25 yards out but the keeper made a fine save to his right, Leo found himself in a 1-on-1 with the keeper which was also saved, and they had a couple of shots themselves which were well saved by Romeo. The first half ended 0-0 with not a lot separating both sides and the game still very much there for the taking.
The second half kicked off and the game seemed to be much more open than before as both teams created good chances. But we eventually found ourselves opening the scoring as Parkwood won a free-kick about 25 yards out on the right and Ciaran smashed it into the top right corner on the keeper’s side to open the scoring, 1-0. After that, BPR seemed to have a lot more of the ball, but without much end product and we still had chances ourselves as kept hitting them on the counter, however they did find a way back into the game as they played the ball down through the right and their winger kept it low and fired the ball past Romeo with about 10 minutes to go for 1-1. The game started to get more tense and within a few minutes, we won another free kick in a similar position to the last one, and Ciaran once again smashed the ball home past the keeper to restore our lead. BPR created some chances to get back level but could not take them. With about 3-minutes to go, BPR received a red card and a yellow for Ciaran after a scuffle on the pitch following a strong tackle, leaving them the final few minutes to play with 10 men. With just 1-minute left, Jude was played through, the keeper came out, and he took the ball around the keeper and calmly placed it into the bottom left corner for 3-1. This game finished and a good 2 points for Parkwood.
Well done to Ben for a MoM performance and one of his best games for Parkwood.
