Lions get back to winning ways

Match report by Ciaran Larkin

For our first league game in a couple of weeks we come up against Russellers this weekend. We’re looking to bounce back and find a good run of form in order to make sure we are back in the title race again. The game kicked off and they only had 9 players for the game today, so they didn’t come out and press us and stayed back looking to hit on the counter. For the first half hour, we made it too easy for them as we kept going over the top and their keeper kept collecting the balls and sending them back to us. After that initial period, we started to play the ball on the floor, which enabled us to get in behind them quicker and more effectively and it's how we found our opening goal as we got down the line, Charlie cut the ball back to Liam to make it 1-0. We started to find some rhythm as a few minutes later, Jake scored as Kurt played the ball over the top for Jake to run onto, and with the keeper out of position he volleyed the ball into the left hand side of the goal for 2-0. And we got our 3rd soon after as Charlie’s scooped pass found Liam who got his 2nd and made it 3-0 before half time.
For the second half we knew we had to keep playing like we did in the last 15 minutes, and we did exactly that, by keeping the ball on the floor and working the opportunity, which is how we found our 4th as Jude’s ball found Arthur who scored to make it 4-0. Harley then got two quick goals with one of them being a good finish from a very tight angle and the second being a deft header from a cross from the left wing. This was one of the last significant actions of the game as it finished 6-0 to Parkwood. Overall the performance was better in the second half as we were more patient and found that we could create enough opportunities to score by stretching the play and keeping hold of the ball.
Well done Billy for an excellent game and a well deserved MoM.
