Lions start 2024 with a disappointing defeat

Match report by Ciaran Larkin.

It’s our first game back after Christmas and we’re facing a side who we had beaten twice last season and also in a pre-season friendly. We were required to be up to a decent standard to keep up with our pursuit at the top of the table, and we hoped to take our pre-Christmas form into this game.
The game kicked off and we hoped to control the game from the off and to establish our dominance, but it was almost anything but as their players were easily able to go past 1 or 2 Parkwood players before picking out a pass. We had a couple of opportunities where we broke down the wing and were able to find someone in the middle, but this ultimately amounted to very little. However, despite not really generating many chances, Dulwich found the first goal following in a rebound for a 1-0 lead. We hoped this would spring us into life, but it didn’t, and Dulwich scored their second very quickly thereafter, as they got down our left-hand side and crossed in for someone to find the back of the net for 2-0.
The halftime whistle sounded, and we came off knowing we played nowhere near as good as we should or could be, so we needed to turn this around if we want to get anything out of this. The second half started, and we switched formation to put more bodies into the midfield and it worked. We had more of the ball, created more chances and we did get a goal back as Jude was played in through the middle and found the bottom left corner to halve the deficit with about 25 minutes left to play. We started to create more chances, but we couldn’t find the back of the net for the equaliser, as the game ended 2-1 to Dulwich. We came off the pitch knowing we should’ve played and can play a lot better than what we showed today.
Well played to Kurt who was the man of the match.
