Winning start for the Lions

Match report by Ciaran Larkin.

It's our first game back for the new season and now we’re hoping to achieve exactly what we did last year or go even further. Our first game this year is against Kidbrooke, a side who weren’t in our division last year so we don’t know how good they are or how they play, so we’re just going to have to see on the day. We kicked off the first game of our season in our 4-4-2 which we used for last season and served us really well, we had a first competitive debut for Kurt who was starting at centre back for us. Our first goal didn’t take much time, a ball over the top from our corner found Liam who controlled and placed the ball into the far bottom corner for 1-0. We started to grow in to the game and we then got our 2nd as Jake was found down the line, he then crossed the ball into the box and Arthur got his 1st and doubled our lead, and it got even better for us as we had our 3rd after Jude tackled one of their players about 22 yards out, and then curled the ball into the top left corner to make it 3-0 to us with halftime round the corner, and with this healthy advantage we just needed to keep going and not let this slip. The 2nd half got underway and it carried on the way it ended as Liam was able to add his 2nd from a ball from Jake to give us a 4-0 advantage, and it didn’t stop their as we got our 5th via Arthur again as the ball was cleared off the line, fell to Arthur and he just buried it into the bottom corner. It then got better as Jesse who was stepping in goal for us, booted the ball, it bounced over the defence, found Liam who then ran through and completed his hattrick and made it 6-0. Now what we really wanted was the clean sheet, but that didn’t happen as they played a short corner, their player took it to the edge of the box, and curled it to the far corner to give them a small consolation goal. Yet our 6 goal advantage was restored as we broke with Jake carrying the ball forward, he laid it off to Ciaran on his right, and Ciaran placed it into the far corner to make it 7-1, which proved to be the last significant action of the game. We had our first win of the season, and it was a big win at that. Well played to everyone including Jesse, Kurt, Jake and our man of the match Liam, we just need to carry this momentum into next week against Fleetdown.
